Introduction

The Western Treatment Plant is situated on the shores of Port Phillip Bay southwest of Melbourne. It receives and treats most of the sewage produced in Melbourne's western and northern suburbs, including most industrial wastes.

The treatment complex is a unique feature of Melbourne's sewerage system and, as such, is an immensely valuable educational resource.

Thirty-one resource activities are provided to help you plan the tour and to imbed it into your teaching program. Each has been linked to relevant CSF II learning outcomes.

Want to organise a tour?

A coach tour of the 10,850-hectare site takes two hours. Students are also provided with education kits that include fact sheets, work sheets and maps - all linked to CSF II/VCE Study Designs.

Also available are special interest tours for international delegations, senior citizens and birdwatchers.

Prep-year 6 students/seniors: $4.50/head
Years 7-10 students: $5.00/head
VCE/tertiary students/other: $6.00/head
Minimum fee: $125/group
