Water recycling is a key part of maintaining a sustainable water supply for Melbourne.

This innovative new mobile model is available to help students, industry, businesses and the community to better understand where our water comes from and the range of ways that recycled water can be used in horticulture, agriculture, industry and recreation.

The model is 1.5 by 2.4 metres in size and is transported to your school, business or festival via a trailer. Real water flows over the model's catchment landscape with sound effects and track lighting showing different features of the model in action. An experienced water recycling education officer accompanies the model and will set it up, pack it up and deliver sessions tailored to meet your educational or event outcome. Sessions generally run for 45-60 minutes.

Students will learn:

  • Where Melbourne's water comes from
  • What recycled water is
  • Why recycled water is a viable option for water sustainability and to help preserve our precious drinking water
  • Where recycled water can be used in Melbourne and surrounds
  • What the State Government is doing to save water on a large scale
  • What we all can do to help save water at home and at school

The Water Recycling Model is a recycled water educational resource and has been funded by the Victorian Water Trust, City West Water and Melbourne Water.
